5 Tips to get the right Wallpaper for your home

The significance of wallpaper is not to be underestimated. You are going to be living around it every day so need to make sure it suits your personality.

Deciding on the right wallpaper for your home can be a stressful task as you don’t want to be living in an environment that might unbalance your mood. The significance of wallpaper is not to be underestimated. You are going to be living around it every day so need to make sure it suits your personality. There are a few factors you must take into consideration on top of your own aesthetic preferences. Here are five tips for picking the right wallpaper for your home:

  1. Patience – This may sound like a cliché especially when it comes to home improvement where we generally only buy something that we need but it is very relevant when it comes to wallpaper choice. Take your time in, visit many different DIY stores and online wallpaper sites and compare the items. You will then have a clear understanding of what it is that you are looking for and what takes your fancy.
  2. Personality – The wallpaper you choose should reflect your own personality so clarify what it is that you like. This may be the colour, texture and design which we will discuss below. It is harder than you think to understand what it is we like. You may find after a week of purchasing and living around the wallpaper that you actually don’t enjoy its appearance so maybe ask your friends or family for suggestions too.
  3. Design – The most obvious thing you need to consider is the appearance of the wallpaper. It is going to be there for both you and your guests to see for the foreseeable future so it needs to convey elegance, beauty, fun or whatever the look is you are going for. There are a number of designs from floral patterns to pictures of nature to designer drawings which will add to the value of your home.
  4. Texture – The way in which wallpaper feels might not be a priority but it should actually have a significant bearing on your choice. If you have kids or pets the last thing you want is something that rips easily and is extremely fragile. You may also be looking for a contemporary look such as velvet or even animal print (controversial I know). There is a larger choice when it comes to texture and something in which you should consider.
  5. Colour – The one thing above all else that must be correct is the colour scheme you opt for. This does not necessarily have to match the décor of the house and can be completely individual to a particular room. However, it must be enjoyable to look at which is why you should stay away from nauseating colours such as brown and green not to mention dark colours like black and blood red. The safest colours are light blue and white which are the most favourable for setting positive moods but there are others such as purple, fusion and yellow which can also evoke joyous emotions.
