Getting to work – how to actually paint the room

You’ve done all of the prep work involved in painting a room. You’ve cleared furniture away from the walls, covered everything with drop cloths, and wiped down the walls with a damp cloth before priming.

Once your primer is dry, the moment has finally come. You are ready to apply paint to the walls and bring about a transformation. When you follow a methodical approach and you have the proper materials, you can’t go wrong. Remember to remain patient and take your time. If you do a rush job, you won’t be as satisfied with your results. Your efforts will pay off when you pace yourself and pay attention to detail. In the end, you’ll have the look you were aiming for and the room will be revitalised, no matter what color paint you select. If you experience any troubles, call us now and our professionals will help you every step of the way.

Getting Started
Gather your materials, including your paint, a stir stick, a paint pan, a roller, and an angled brush. An angled brush is the best way to go when you are working toward the corners or the trim at the bottom and top of the wall. Many people opt to tape off the molding or edges, only to have the paint stripped from the wall when the tape is removed. Begin with your ceiling, which should be sanded first. This will avoid any problems with potential splatters on your walls. Use your roller when you are doing the majority of the work, making sure you use a stick that will lengthen your reach. Be sure to put an adequate amount of paint on the roller. If you use too much, it will drip and cause a mess. Slow, even strokes will give you the kind of coat you are looking for in the end. Use your angled brush for those hard-to-reach places, the corners, and as you approach the molding.

Don’t Get Hung Up On Mistakes
Don’t sweat the small stuff when you are in the middle of painting. Have a damp rag handy at all times. If you apply paint where you don’t want it, a quick swipe of your rag will take care of the problem. Be sure to do so immediately and move on. If you feel that your coat of paint is patchy in places, you can always apply another coat after the first layer has dried completely.

Take Care of the Trim Work
Save your trimming for last. You’ll want to take great time and care with your molding or trim. If you use tape to protect your wall, make sure it will not adhere to the wall and peel your paint. Use a ladder at the proper height when you are working at the ceiling level, always keeping safety in mind. When you are on the floor level, prepare to take breaks as you work your way around the room. Using a small, edged brush will avoid catastrophes.
