When is the best time to paint the interior of my home?

Painting can be a difficult DIY chore to undertake. There are many factors to consider such as using the right equipment, choosing the style you want, calculating costs and planning the schedule.

The time you decide to start can be chosen out of necessity, convenience or be pre-determined. When you’re not dealing with professional contractors you have less leeway in terms of free-time you have to complete the task, unless you are currently in-between jobs, on a long vacation, etc. Finding the best days to work on your home is stressful so it is always ideal to have the preparation in place regardless of chosen times so that you can begin working at the drop of a hat. In any case here are some tips on when to choose the best time to paint the interior of your home.

Re-Modelling

You may decide that your home needs a touch up; it may be lifeless and dull so a change is always a good way to improve your mood along with your family’s and visitors. A new paint job and colour scheme can have a direct impact on the way in which you feel as you enter the front door and sit down to watch some television i.e. light colours are relaxing, earthy tones create a sense of nature and dark shades can be overwhelming.

Maintenance

If you have noticed certain cracks in the paint or tears in the wallpaper appearing then you may not be able to wait for optimum times to begin painting. In this case you should find time whenever possible to do it whether that means painting a wall each evening or undertaking the entire project over the weekend; it’s simply a case of needs must.

Season

When painting the interior it is easy to forget about the outside weather as it really shouldn’t matter, should it? Well, in fact, it CAN be important. You need the best lighting possible when it comes to painting in order to ensure there are no mistakes and everything can be seen clearly. This means natural lighting and the longer there is daylight outside the more time you have to paint at optimum conditions. The summer is always the best time to paint as there is obviously long periods of light and also holidays in which you can spend concentrating on DIY tasks. Having a weeklong vacation is ideal for this kind of work.

Whether you decide to paint to cover over some cracks, want to spruce up your home or merely do it out of boredom it is always advisable to at least have a plan in place. Remember to take safety precautions where necessary, don’t spend beyond your means and never rush when it comes to painting; this will only incur you more costs and time in the future.
