Why the quality of paint materials definitely makes a difference

As the old adage goes, a craftsman is only as good as his tools. This applies none more so than to painters and the materials they use. You would be surprised how the difference of quality in a simple thing such as a brush can play a big role in painting tasks. There is certain material and equipment which is of higher quality than other similar products.

If you select the wrong tools you can end up with an uneven, short lasting disaster which will require twice as much time and money to repair. Before you go to your local DIY store or select your contractor be sure to research all possible painting items to be used in terms of price, performance, sustainability and durability. Here are some tips on how to ensure you pick the right materials.

Price – It is often perceived as consumers that the more expensive an item is the better quality it is. Although this can be true it does not mean that similar performing materials can’t be found for lesser expense. It’s all about making comparisons between different stores and seeking out sales e.g. straight after Christmas is a good time to purchase supplies.

Performance – There are ways to find out the true performance quality of a material or tool prior to experiencing it yourself. Look for reviews online from customers who have used specific types of paint and equipment. They can inform you of the overall quality; how efficient the product is, the ease of application, instructions for best techniques, etc.

Sustainability – Painting is all about longevity and never having to redo the same task regularly. Creating an everlasting effect is a key component to high quality paint. When you purchase a type of paint it is easy to just look for the correct colour and think nothing else of it. However, the substance itself plays a huge part in the application and prolonged finish it leaves. If you opt for a latex based paint, for example, over oil based ones then you are more likely to experience less cracks and peeling over time.

Safety – Expanding on the above point oil based paints are problematic to the environment as well as our own personal health when inhaled. This is another reason to choose a different material. Certain clothing should also be taken into account in terms of safety; overalls should be worn to prevent staining of clothes along with masks so that no respiratory problems occur.
