Why it’s best to leave painting to the professionals when small children are around

Certain paint materials can be very toxic and as such must be handled with extreme care. There is a strong possibility of an accident when an inexperienced person attempts to undertake a painting task and takes none of the essential safety precautions. If children are in the house then health care is of an upmost concern.

Their immune systems are not as strong as healthy adults so they are constantly susceptible to foreign agents who can create infections or illnesses i.e. paint fumes.  Here are some of the possible risks to children painting in the home presents and the appropriate steps a contractor will take to assuring a safe and satisfactory job.

Allergies

From fumes to skin contact, paint offers plenty of safety risks to our bodies. It wouldn’t be hard for a child to see an open container of paint and begin playing with it. This can cause rashes and infections in the blood stream from the liquid that seeps in. If there is a kid present whilst the painting is taking place they can inhale the fumes which could provoke respiratory problems and in worst case scenarios brain damage.

Sharp Tools

Painting is not just about the paint itself but also the equipment you use for preparation and application. Items such as wall scrapers and multi-purpose blades can cause serious bodily harm. To children these merely look like shiny objects to play with which is why it is essential that they are kept out of their reach. For professionals this is second nature but for anybody else this can easily slip their mind and all it takes is one time for an accident to happen.

Ladders

Another aspect of painting is reaching high walls and ceilings which require the use of ladders. When left unattended these can easily be climbed by naïve children who are unaware of the dangers they pose. The end result can be disastrous though as a child falling from a relatively big height can break bones or seriously hurt their head. Professionals will always remember to place a ladder flat on the floor once used and will never leave it unattended in the presence of kids.

The big problem is that kids are curious by nature and privy to mischief so if certain objects are left lying around that they can get their hands on it’s a disaster waiting to happen. Professionals are experienced and skilled at dealing with paint safety and are more qualified than a layman at successfully completing the task.
